I recently switched partners, and thus S-Numbers. I do not want to start a new SCN account, having to re-build my reputation and losing 1,100 points in the process. I have the highest reputation in the ByDesign space, so whatever SAP can do to graciously change my S-Number for my SCN account will be greatly appreciated.
Dear SCN Gods, Please Let Me Change My S-Number

Blog It Forward - Sven van Leuken
Even after having read David Allen’s “Getting things done”,it still took me more than a year to start writing my BIF entry after having been “BIFfed” by colleague Wim Snoep (Sorry for that Wim)
Growing up
My journey started way back, in 1974 to be precise, after being born in very small village called Mariahout, nearby Eindhoven in The Netherlands.
(For all Dutch/Belgian readers: Mariahout is also the village in which famous singer-/songwriter Guus Meeuwiswas born.)
The first decade of my life was spend completely “computer-less”, as the first computer my parents bought me was a 2nd hand Atari 2600 for my 11th birthday.
After the Atari, the MSX I entered my bedroom and the first lines of code were created via MSX Basic. Adding a music module even made me pursue a carrier in the music industry…but this was a short lived adventure.
I also outlived the MSX I (loading games via tape) and purchased a Commodore 64 which was able to load games via an external 1541 disk drive! This was as big as a ‘game changer’ for me then, as SAP HANA is for me now. Everything seemed to load with the speed of light!
After I was fed up (if that is even possible) with coding and gaming on the commodore 64, I’d bought my first PC which was equipped with a 386 DX-II processor and a turbo-boost button! This PC was my partner in crime during the whole of my Computer Science study which I successfully completed in 1996.
Having to/going to work
After having attended several ABAP courses by Marien de Ridder, I’d took my first steps as an ABAP “developer” at a local Brewery in Lieshout, The Netherlands.
I’ve ‘painted’ beautiful ‘screens’ (who needs Personas?) and made even more beautiful SAPscript documents….all of which needed to be recoded via StreamServe at a later stage.
When I believed my learning curve was flattening, I decided to leave the brewery and crossed over from being an SAP customer to an SAP consultant. The first few years of my consulting career was a concatenation of highlights as I was given the chance to work closely together to, whom until today I believe to be one of the best ‘Abappers’ I’ve ever met (no offense to all others), Ben Meijs.
Having Ben Meijs as your mentor/tutor really helps a lot in switching your mindset from being a ‘playground’-ABAP consultant towards a professional one.
Until today I still don’t exactly know why, I guess the devil made me do it, but I left Ben and pursued my career at another SAP consulting firm.
At Ciber I took my first steps into a whole new world which, at that time, was called SAP BW. Under the guidance of Laurens Vestjens I gradually transformed from an ABAP- towards a BI consultant.
And now, more than a decade!! later, I’m still a happy SAP BI consultant, delighted to be married to Daphne (who’s pursuing a career in (freelance) photography) and a father of two (Koen and Luc) future SAP consultants
Q&A
Last but not least I’ll try to answer the questions which Wim Snoep asked me….over a year ago. (Again sorry Wim that it took me so long to write this all down)
1) If you were 20 again, what would you study?
As I’m not only intrigued by technique, but also fascinated with personal growth (I try to live by the 7 habits of highly effective people) I believe I would be attending a study in that area. Possibly an MBA study.
2) If you were given by your work a full day every week to do whatever you feel like, what would it be?
In fact....Ciberhas given me this day….which led to the creation of the Ciber ProfitBoost – Sales solution. Together with several colleagues we’d created a solution which is designed to help organizations optimize profit margins through well-informed price differentiation. It’s an SAP PA (Predictive Analytics) based solution running on SAP HANA and uniquely combines algorithms and data mining capabilities to help identifying, exploring and realizing incremental potential profit in sales.
3) Marilyn's question: Describe an instance when empathy in a project, development, collaboration, work experience, or community interaction turned a situation around (or should have)?
This question kind of leads back to the answer given at question 1: When you (try to) live according to the 7 habits, in this case especially habit 4, 5 and 6 (win-win, understand-understood and synergize) which are all about inter dependency, I strongly believe that the situation that Marilyn is describing would never occur in the first place! There’s no i in team!
Pay it forward
Being “BIFfed” also gives me the opportunity to name a few people who I’d like to join the BIF initiative. These are, in random order:
I would like to ask them to answer the following questions:
- Recommend resources of information that help you in your work
- If you were 20 again, what would you study?
- What is your professional life dream?
Please be sure to follow the Blog It Forward Chain to be notified when Ben, Dick or Xavier update the link to their "BIF" blog.
Best regards

Blog It Forward - Alexandre Papagiannidis Rivet
Hello, Bonjour SCNers!
Firstly, thanks to Ingo Hilgefort for blogging me forward and for giving me the opportunity to present myself to the broader SAP community.
A little about my country: Canada
I live in the awesome city of Montreal. Located in the eastern part of the country, the island of Montreal boasts a European flair. This is probably one of the reasons my parents immigrated here from Europe in the 70s. The city is very culturally diverse. The official languages are French and English, which makes for fun conversations in what we call “FrenGlish,” whereby we switch/mix both languages in the same sentence. We have 4 distinct seasons and 2 extreme temperatures: Cold Winters and Hot Summers. Hot summers are cooled down with a great, cold, and refreshing MolsonCoors Beer!
A fun fact about me: I was born on April 20th and I wanted to become a chef!
My cultural background is a mix of French and Greek, as you might have guessed by the 13 letters in my last name. My early university studies were leading me towards a career in Hotel and Restaurant Management. As a kid, my dream job was to become a world-renowned Chef. Cooking is still a passion that I share with my loved ones. Another fun fact about me is that I won a Rally championship as a co-pilot.As some of you already know, I have recently been appointed SAP Mentor with an area of expertise in the BI front-end tools.
That's me with Andrew Murray from SAP Paris in a big discussion at TechEd 2013
What is my Role at MolsonCoors?
My current employer is MolsonCoors Brewing Company. Yes… BEER Every guy's dream job!
Here's one of my favourite TV ads for one of our brands, Molson Canadian: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUqsF8vbR_Q
What started as a month-long contract has turned into 4 completely different positions, and, 12 year later, I'm still enjoying working in Business Intelligence for one of the world's top brewers. My role as BI Business Partner is new to the organization. Our main focus is to standardize our BI offerings on a global scale and make sure the business is getting the best value from the BI tools. I am responsible for our Corporate Centre located in Denver, Colorado and our International Division. We have offices around the globe (China, India, Japan, Spain, Caribbean, etc) My goal is to visit each one of our offices. Did I mention I love to travel?
So here's my answers to BIF questions
1) What superpower would you like to have, and why?
If I had a superpower… It would have to be something with time. Like Hiro Nakamura in the series Heroes!
2) If you were a flavor of ice cream, what would you be?
I would say Chocolate as there's so many layers of complexity in the flavour and everybody like it
3) If you were a chef at my restaurant, what would you cook?
I would make you one of my favourite Greek dishes of roasted lamb over lemony potatoes. Super simple but delicious
I would like to blog it forward to my fellow Mentors Joyce Butler,Leonardo De Araujo and my friend James Rapp
A Bientôt!
A.

SAP Buzz 2013
My colleagues and I have a weekly geek meeting where we discuss everything from upcoming fashion trends to new ABAP data types. At our last geek week meeting we discussed SAP buzzwords 2013 and thought that it might be interesting to share the list with you.
The idea of the list is for SAP developers to have a quick overview of the latest buzz. At your next SAP cocktail party you can then join the SAP small talk. Wait a minute, developers do not have cocktail parties. Ok, then at least you might find it useful at the next SAP TechEd or perhaps you even find buzz you never heard of and will catch up on.
Since years I have wanted to write a blog on the yearly SAP buzz, but failed badly due to incompleteness. The only thing I am therefore completely sure of is, that the list is incomplete. Therefore, I reach out to the community to help compile the list. Please add a comment with buzzwords that should be added or removed.
I consider buzz a relatively new or frequently used term that is used by SAP professionals during the past year. Buzz can have a life span of several years, such as for example HANA. The list is therefore not limited to new terms.
Thank you!

Blog it Forward - Hannes Kuehnemund
This blog is part of the Blog it Forward activity. I was blogged forward by Blog It Forward - AhMeD IbRaHiM and Blog It Forward - Jitendra Kansal and would like to thank AhMeD and Jitendra for this great opportunity to provide some information about myself to the community. In case you are not familiar with the Blog it Forward activity, get more information here - and if you would like to participate have a look at this chain.
Intro of myself
My name is Hannes Kuehnemund and I was born in Germany in a city called Weissenfels in Eastern Germany. Since then may parents moved a lot and finally settled near Heidelberg where I finished school and got my Bachelor of Arts degree. Heidelberg is just a few miles north of Walldorf. SAP has been present all the time as a matter of fact and so it was quite obvious to start my career at SAP in fall 2000.
In the first years at SAP I held various positions in product and release management as well as ABAP development for SAP HR (R/3 4.7 Enterprise). In 2003 I moved into the SAP LinuxLab to finally make my hobby - Linux - my profession. In the LinuxLab I was doing various tasks like porting the SAP R3SETUP installer to Linux IA64 (Itanium), work on performance optimizations in the Linux IO scheduler or a side project called NetWeaver on a stick (which we stopped because a 2GB USB stick was way too expensive at that time!!). I introduced PGO makes for SAP on Linux kernels using the gcc 4.1.2 complier onwards. By time I was also responsible for the SAP on Linux Hardware and Virtualization certification which finally lead to the certification of Amazon Web Services for SAP production use.
Since 2011 I'm the product owner for SAP Cloud Appliance Library (CAL) working for Markus WINTER out of the SAP Palo Alto office.
Where do I live now
Since February 2013 I live in Silicon Valley - and this will continue to be the greatest experience I make in my life. There are so many cultures in the valley, so much entrepreneurship, so much future and innovative thinking around - it is mind blowing. I love having so many food options around, besides the traditional American food there is a Fusion restaurant for every cuisine available. Last but not least, I started to become addicted to Indian Food, especially Butter Chicken. Simply AWESOME!
... and BTW, GO SHARKS GO
A fun fact about myself
I'm working for SAP for more than 13 years now, never for another company. The funny thing is, that I never wrote an application for any company - so how did I get a job at SAP? It is simple; it was my mother who wrote the application for me. I was surprised when she told me that I have an interview for a sponsored university program at SAP back in 1998. I managed the interview and got selected for one of the 30 positions, 2 years ahead of time (because I was still in school at that time and did not waste a thought about my future).
The Best Thing I like about SAP
Wow, there are countless things I like at SAP, all the people I have been in touch with the last 13+ years - the spirit that allows the employees to make special things happen, the openness of communication, and much more.
The most wonderful memory in your life until now
That was probably the vacation with my dad, when both of us were heading first to Ulan Bataar, then we took a small plane to Dalanzangad from where we took the traditional Russian UAS jeep into the Gobi desert to participate at the Gobi Marathon. My dad and I were in position 3 and 4 and just before the finish line he let me advance although I was completely exhausted and he was actually still in very good shape. So finishing your first marathon in the desert of Gobi, 3rd place with the support of your dad - that is still the most wonderful memory of my life until now. After that we did a couple of other (ultra) marathons too ...
Which is the most satisfactory moment in my life?
Easy - it was when I turned 18 (becoming an adult in Germany) and was allowed to do everything I was not allowed the day before ;-)
What did I do yesterday
My wife and I participated in a community event where both of us (and probably 300+ other people and kids) packaged Christmas presents. It was a huge Toy Wrapping Party at the Red Morton Community Center in Redwood city. It was an unbelievable great experience and you learn how to package a basketball ... that was really hard! ;-)
Hobbies that are worth to be mentioned
One of my favorite things to do is preparing speeches for the Toastmaster meetings. Being an officer of the local SAP Toastmasters club is it my duty to deliver great speeches and encourage everyone to join the club because there are so many dormant skills which Toastmaster awoke in me. The professionalism one gains after being a member at a Toastmaster club is much more than you would get from any 1-week training I've ever attended.
Also, I like Video games - a lot - and I impressed the trainer of the enterprise gamification training lately when he asked the round how many video games we have played in our life. The average number in the group was approximately 10-15 (without me). I played around 2000 video games up to now (not all of them until the final boss) and still enjoy it. It is unbelievable how different every game is and how creative game developers are. I made my dream come true in 2010 when I visited Tokyo / Akihabara to experience the Japanese gaming culture. The below picture was taken is Asakusa/Tokyo next to the Bandai building.

Original Title
First Blogpost ever - I introduce myself first :-)
So, in the beginning I would introduce myself first. I'm not sure, if anybody is interested in stuff like that, but if, here's my story:
How I became a Developer.
In the beginning, my mother born a son... ahh stop it ok ok, let give me another try to start this here.
When I finished school I became first a professional seller. That means I sold dishes, knifes, all stuff you need in the kitchen
After four years doing that, I had to decide to move Cologne or to munich for my company.
I pretty was in the early twenties and I wasn't sure, if that should be my next step, because i just was not loving the job that much.
So I took a break by joining the german army. You have to know, every german young man has to join them for at least nine month at that time. It's called "Grundwehrdienst".
Few month after doing that, my Sgt. came to me asking me, if I want to join them for longer than just the few month and he told me, that i can study after my time in the army by getting paid. That sounded good to me and so I joined the army at least for 8 years.
During that time, i visited different classes where i learned a lot of it, such as Java, Powershell and stuff like that and I had a lot of fun programming things in my offtime. When the 8 years passed by I had to choose. What should I study and of course, here my story as a developer begins.
I joined a german school where I learned a lot necessary and also a lot not necessary stuff about computers and all the things around it.
When I finished the school after 2 years I send my CV to different companies and my actual company give me a chance getting a certified ABAP-developer.
I took the chance, passed the course with a very good certify and doing that now a couple years...
Next time, i will give less informations about me, and more informations about programming *gg*
BTW, thank you for reading to the end
Regards
Florian

If you were not in your current position, what/where would you be and why?
I think I would be an technican, because that is another big thing in my life, I love to get behind the package and see, what's going inside...
But, my company give me the chance and I used it
What do you most enjoy on SCN?
Having that much information in such a small corner of the internet and getting that close to other people, doing the same like me. And, being very close to them, which are developing things I use ( most of the time)
What is the best resource of information on SCN?
Most of them are good i think. It just depends on that, what you want to know
My questions are:
How do you get in touch to the news you need?
What do you think about all the new possibilities SAP throws right out to us?

The SCN Rules of Engagement
SAP Community Network (SCN) is a great place for SAP professionals to connect, collaborate and build their reputations. For the best collective experience on SCN, we ask that members adhere to rules of engagement. These rules of engagement are not intended to provide any legal advice, nor do they replace the terms of use. However, these give a good overview of how to behave in SCN.
Good Community Etiquette and Behavior
- Log in to fully participate, giving feedback to those who help you through likes, ratings and comments. Use your real identity to build your own personal brand.
- Be yourself. Provide as much information as you can in your profile. Please use a clear picture of yourself, to put your face with your name. Don't use logos or other graphical content that you copied from somewhere else.
- Search before you post. There are many answered questions and helpful postings already in SCN. Before posting a new question, please search SCN to see if it’s already been asked / answered. That’s the fastest way to get your information.
- Avoid slang. There are many languages and cultures represented in the community. The primary language of most spaces is English. Non-English content should be posted in the appropriate language-specific space (see the Site Index) or posted in the original language with translation to English included. Please avoid slang and SMS Text Speak.
- Share expertise transparently. SCN is a community site that encourages public knowledge sharing. Be open about your knowledge and how you obtained it.
- Avoid solicitations. Avoid marketing your company’s products and services. If you want people to know your affiliation with your company, put those details in your profile to make the information available to the community. Do not embed links to ads in your posts. The same applies to email solicitations and advertising. If you want someone to trust you enough to buy what you offer, share your expertise and they will seek you out. If you want people to contact you, you can choose to make your email visible in your profile, but we ask you not to post it elsewhere on the site.
- Be professional and courteous. Temper negative emotions, keeping communications professional. Do not berate other members for asking questions or posting something you don’t like. The community is intended to be open on a variety of topics.
- Be responsive. If an SCN member has answered your question, please mark the answer as "helpful” or “correct”. Mark the discussion as “answered,” so that other members can find the answers more easily.
- Don’t copy / paste other’s content. Be original.
- Report rule violations: Click the abuse button if you believe an SCN member is violating the rules of engagement. For more details on this, read Reporting Abuses and Notifying Moderator on SCN.
Grounds for Rejections of Posts or Account Removal
There are a few things you cannot do in SCN. These are actions that could lead to removal of your content or disabling / deleting your account. Please be diligent and avoid these behaviors.
- Points-cheating: Engaging in activity for the purpose of increasing one’s own or another’s points. This includes working with other users to rate content highly, creating “fake” users to rate one’s content highly, or any other points-focused activity that does not benefit the community at large.
- Defaming another member: Posting content that discriminates against members based on any perceived differences, including but not limited to differences in culture, race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression and physical ability. Read more on SAP’s diversity values.
- Copyright infringement: The Terms of Use require that all content submitted to SCN be original content created by the author or reproduced with the permission of the copyright owner.
More about Copyright
Copyright gives authors and creators the exclusive right to make copies, license, and/or otherwise exploit content, regardless of the media. See www.copyright.gov for more information. Copying someone else’s work into your own post may violate copyright laws. Please do not copy others work without first gaining written permission from the originator. This includes SAP help files and training materials.
There are three general categories of copyright issues that typically occur in SCN. The table below describes these common scenarios as well as actions SAP may take:
Scenario | Actions |
---|---|
Someone copies another person’s content (from inside or outside SCN) and posts it as their own content in SCN. | SAP may take action and remove the content in question. SAP may also disable or delete the infringing member’s account. SCN Global Moderators may notify SAP Legal when the original content owner complains. |
Someone copies a member’s content from SCN and posts as their own content to another website outside of SCN. | SAP is not authorized to take any action on behalf of individuals who are not SAP employees. Only the copyright owner of the material can take action when someone has copied content without permission. In the event that another site is copying SAP’s content from SCN, SAP Legal may be notified and may take action to protect SAP’s content. |
Someone copies SAP-owned content (Help files, training materials, product documentation, etc.) and posts as their own on SCN or another website. | SAP may take action to defend its copyrighted materials. This could result in disabling or deleting the infringing member’s account and may also result in legal actions against the member. SCN Global Moderators may notify SAP Legal about SAP content being copied without permission. |
When Someone Breaks the Rules
Click the abuse button if you believe an SCN member is violating the rules of engagement. Select the appropriate type of abuse when you report it, and provide a comment so that the moderator knows how to handle it.
If you are a copyright owner and someone has used your content without your permission please follow the instructions at SAP’s Copyrights and Copyright Agent, Disclaimer and Trademarks page.
SCN Enhancement: My views
I would complete my five months of active participation in SCN by the end of this month. I cannot say that I'm a new member anymore. I thought to share my views, by writing this blog, about loyalty or awareness of new users. When I joined, I struggled to get out of moderator review system and it took good time to reach 30 points after which I was able to post my content directly. I went to my missions to earn points and badges to get out of it!!
I followed them, completed the given tasks and had to review them thoroughly as I wasn't able to post anything and get involved with in community directly. It would be honest to say that I read everything because there was something (moderator review system) which kept me away and I got the time to read.
Time has past and today I can say, I do my best to follow the community rules. I still keep on reviewing the new content and any new rule introduced. But one thing which bothers me is now everyone, on the first day itself can earn good points and few badges by completing basic missions. But my question is: Are they actually reviewing the rules and following them. When I started writing this blog
The SCN Rules of Engagement already has 3357 Bookmarks, 896 Likes and 591 ratings (No comments though)
How to use SCN search has 943 Bookmarks, 935 Likes and 831 ratings.
Another one How to close a discussion and why is a wonderful blog and quite popular these days and also being referred to many places
These figure are quite impressive!! But do they reflect real picture?
3357 users, who bookmarked the rules, did actually review them. These 935 likes along with 831 ratings do actually search before posting? I don't think so.
I frequently come across very common queries, for which solution doesn't exceed 30 words, in different forums. Yes, there could be exceptions as nobody is perfect and mistakes are part of human life. But exceptions do not exists in big numbers. We really need to think about it.
What is my intent behind sharing this? It is just to keep this community healthy and best around the globe. It has brought many of us together, on a common platform to share our knowledge. We have learned so much through SCN and still learning by various mediums it gives. I have also seen several moderators always trying so hard to keep the community by rules and proper etiquette. They are good but this is not only their job. We all need to play a role here, to help them, to keep this community clean. What can we give it back and most importantly how ??
I feel that any mission shouldn't be completed just by doing current tasks. I understand that they were sufficient during foundation of this community but everything changes with time. I strongly feel a need of an additional task. I'll explain. In current missions, there should be a very small objective test to earn the badge.
e.g. Some one going for Rules of Engagement must be aware of 'Be responsive' thing. Sample Questions:
- How to close a question? a. Correct b. Helpful c. Like
- How to find quick solution? a. Post query, b. Search SCN
- How to share an article, information? a. Document, b. Blog, c. Create thread.
Once correct, earn the badge. This would somehow improve the quality of missions and definitely spread awareness. I can bet that most of us like/rate a content because that is needed to complete initial missions and subsequently associated points and badges !!
I don't say that these should be exact questions to ask because there are analytic persons to thinks about this, the better and effective questions. This would make members to abide the rules. This would also reduce the abuse reports for searchable queries, duplicate threads etc and further, moderator would not be needed to send DM or delete/lock such content.
Yes, there would always be people who would never go for missions and keep on posting the queries when stuck and go away without responding. But if this was to be given a thought, I don't think founders would have actually started the missions at first place. They expect them to be followed and they need to be followed!!
And those figure have now changed to 3364 Bookmarks, 897 Likes and 593 ratings
These are purely my views! I want to know what all SCNian out there got to share on this.
Regards,
Nitin Jinagal
PS: I have tried to keep this blog intact. If any moderator finds it violating anything, please delete and kindly notify me with reasons.
I'll delete this PS statement when a moderator says its OK
How to make a lot of friends on the SCN in just one hour as a fresher
Are you relatively new in SAP and asking a lot of questions on the SCN?
Excellent! That's what I believe the SCN is for.
Now, many of you will be missing an easy opportunity to make friends here (and therefore being more likely to get good answers fast).
Just follow these steps:
1) Click on your oen name at the top of the screen to get to your profile, click "comtent", click "Authored", click "discussions"
2) Have a quick glance at your discussion posts. The more of them have a blue rather than a green icon to the left, the better the chances for you to make new friends quickly.
3) Now check your authored discussion posts:
3a) Have those still on the blue icon ("not answered") really not been resolved yet? If they are resolved, mark the correct answer as such, so others will also know, what the correct solution was. If none of the answers was correct, but it's still solved (or become obsolete) click "mark as assumed answered" and elaborate. Closing questions helps others to pick the right (unanswered) questions to contribute to. Thanks to Steffi Warnecke for pointing out to me that I missed the "mark as correct" option in the firts version of this post.
3b) If they are not yet answered: has another user offered a solution you haven't tried yet or asked for some further clarification of the problem, so he can help you? Well, you should follow up on this! Leaving it "unanswered" indicates you are still looking for a solution. Not picking up on another user's suggestion (if serious), is basically saying: "I'm still desparate for a solution, but as you are asking me to contribute to the solution of my own problem, I can't be bothered and anyway: I don't trust your solution, because I think you don't know your stuff.". How do you think this impacts your chances of getting help next time round.
3c) This, which have been resolved: give feedback to contributors and let everybody know, what did the trick in the end. It's nice for those, who contributed, and others can learn from it as well. If you decide not to use a certain solution, say why ("Thanks for this suggestion. Unfortunately I'm not good enough at schema config to implement that, but we found this workaround XYZ and users are happy enough with it.")
4) Now, hopefully most of your discussions should have the green "answered" status, those unanswered are followed up on with any further information required, so the respective experts are probably figuring out your solution already and all contributors feel they have been dealing with a polite, respectful human being they would happily work with again.
Note: most people here help, because they like helping others. But to get a positive feeling out of the process, they need some kind of feedback. Even, if it's "This solution didn't work - it just brought this new error...", it still doesn't feel like they talk into a black hole.
Hence, if you are collaborative and polite, you'll be liked, even, if you are mostly asking questions and not yet answering many due to your level of experience. You'll still be respected as someone easy to work with and make friends along the way.
still here? go to step one from above now
