Your mission, should you decide to accept it...

With less than 2 weeks until the ASUG Annual Conference/SAPPHIRENOW, I would like to challenge you to participate in a unique fundraiser to benefit Doctors Without Borders.  This year, the #SAPCC (SAP Community Challenge) is linked to an actual SCN Mission!  You can read about the mission (and bookmark it for your first badge) here - when you bookmark her blog, you'll receive the first badge of this mission!

To earn your second badge, the 'I Gave' badge, visit our Fundraiser Page and make a donation to Doctors Without Borders.  You will see very soon that you will have gained a new badge (badges will be updated on a periodic basis; we hope to be able to keep up with you all!)

Meanwhile, as it pertains to ASUG/SAPPHIRENOW, it is well known that over the course of the conference, attendees will be logging some serious footsteps.  Some may even organize into morning runs - before the heat of the day can beat on us.  Practically everyone has a smartphone that can track your distance or some other device like a Fitbit that will also track it.

If you will be doing enough running or walking, and prefer to track something else, how about how many coffees you consume, or how many evaluations you fill out after a session?  How many SAP Usability sessions can you attend?  Or how many SAPMentors you can get photographed with?

You decide - anything that is fun, OK?

Last year, perhaps the most famous Challenge came from Clint Vosloo who volunteered to do 5 burpees for every dollar donated on his behalf.  And he made good on his promise, the proof is out there on Youtube for everyone to enjoy.   I believe Clint raised $150.00 for MSF, but the sport of watching his 'burpee' videos was priceless.

So you sign up below - sign in into SCN, then press edit on this page and add yourself in the table below.   Those of you familiar with the #BIF initiative will be familiar with the fun of editing a table, but I know we can all manage it.  Then, using whatever means you like (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, letters to mom and dad, standing outside Starbucks with a cardboard sign) find people to ‘sponsor’ you.  You can direct them to this Fundraising Page.  Remember to have your ‘sponsors’ use your SCN UserID (something like http://scn.sap.com/people/susan.keohan) in the comments section of the Fundraiser so that you will earn credits towards the ‘I Inspire’ badge!

During the conference, post your mileage or coffees-consumed (whatever your challenge is) periodically.  If you use Twitter, use the hashtag #sapcc and #scn_cares.

By the end of the conference, I bet we will have done something we can all be happy about - well, multiple things actually!  We will have learned about SAP via the ASUG and SAPPHIRE sessions, kept fit if we elected to do a 'physical challenge' AND raised money for Doctors Without Borders.

While this challenge is technically ‘individual’ based, we hope that you don’t feel shy about putting together a team.  If your company is an SAP Partner, we welcome your contributions to the overall Mission of supporting Doctors Without Borders.

I am hoping to have multiple sponsors, so I will probably have multiple lines.  I hope you will join me in this Community Challenge.

Together we can be some of the 'helpers' that the world so desperately needs.

Most importantly, besides the FUN of participating in this challenge, is the fact that together the members of SAP Community Network and their loved ones will know that they have donated to an organization which provides desperately needed medical care.  MSF provides assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters, and to victims of armed conflict. They do so irrespective of race, religion, creed, or political convictions.  For all that the medical staff and volunteers at MSF do, we should be truly grateful.
